la-rando-guide-et-accompagnThe high plains of the Cerdagne and neighbouring Capcir (altiplano in Spanish) are unique in the Pyrenees with their open panoramic, sun kissed vistas as far as the eye can see, the gently undulating landscape seems to defy its average altitude of 1300m.  Despite the significant height differential between the  lower part of the plain at the Spanish border (1100m) and the highest peaks in the Cerdagne (3 are over 2900m high), these mountain slopes, interspersed with sun-filled welcoming valleys are gentle and accessible to walkers of all ages and abilities, from the family walker to the confirmed hiker. Numerous lakes dotted throughout the area make for pleasant respites for the hiker and destinations for the more leisurely nature lover.  Explore the Catalan mountains on foot, on horseback, mountain bike or take a hike accompanied by a donkey so the whole family can walk together. Izzards, deer and mountain sheep are easily visible to the keener eye!  And after a day of exertion, what better than a relaxing soak in one of our region’s hot springs….

The Catalan mountains are accessible to walkers of all abilities. Numerous trails set off from local villages, perfect for autumn strolls and great for feeling at one with nature. Are you ready for more?   There is so much to discover here, such as reading the land, understanding the culture and learning our agriculture.   So if you want to get the most out of crossing the ridges of Catalan mountains or reaching their summits, you’ll need to learn more about the area, its flora and fauna and how to do this in total safety.  Mountain climbing can be perilous; you need to know how to interpret imminent danger. Our mountain guides are here just for that – they can ensure your safety and take you on a journey of discovery through local history, geography and nature.   Let them show you what they do best.
