Targassonne’s Felsenmeer (boulder field) is situated half way between Dorres and Font-Romeu, this vast landscape of boulders lies on a south-facing 1500m high slope. From this point an immense panorama stretches across the mountain range in front, towards mount Puigmal. Local stonemasons from Dorres and Angoustrine used to come here to cut granite when they needed it. Today, climbers of all abilities come from throughout the region to train on the Felsenmeer’s massive rocks.
You may stroll freely through the felsenmeer and explore these extraordinary hunks of granite, most bear names like the famous « barratas » (enormous hat), or « Napoleon’s hat » or look out for «The Eagle».
